The Pentax 645D has a true 40Mp of image capturing power, made possible by the 44 x 33mm CCD image sensor. Additional image sizes include 32Mp, 21Mp, 13Mp, and 7Mp. The camera's P645AF2 bayonet mount fits Pentax 645AF2, 645AF, and 645A mount lenses. The camera's focal plane shutter gives you the latitude of speeds from 30 seconds to 1/4000, and of course, bulb.

When it comes to the focus system, the 645D has a TTL phase-difference 11 point wide autofocus system, known as the 11 point ASFOX IX+. Focus modes include AF Single (with focus lock), AF Continuous, and manual. Additionally, the 77-segment metering system ensures accuracy. Center-weighted and spot are also options at your disposal. In addition, the camera has mirror dampening hardware and an electronic leveling function for image stabilization, while a wide ISO range of 100-1600 (depending on setting) allows you to select from numerous speeds for your situation.

The 645D also features multiple white balance options with several common presets. Additionally, functions like continuous, self-timer, mirror-lockup, and remote give you the flexibility to handle most-any situation in the studio or on location. As would be expected, external flash can be used with the camera as well. Hotshoe (P-TTL, high speed sync available), wireless with Pentax dedicated flash, x-sync socket connections, and a sync speed of 1/125, ensure that you can shoot on camera, strobe, GPS, or radio.

Composing shots can be done with the trapezoid pentaprism viewfinder which features the Center-Spot-Matte Focusing Screen DS-80. This screen provides 98% coverage, 0.62x magnification, and a diopter adjustment of -3.5 to 2.0, with optical and digital depth of field preview. The 645D also has a 3.0" white backlit LCD monitor with 921,000 dots of resolution. The monitor offers multiple playback modes, magnification up to 32x, a mode pallet and digital filters, along with language support for 20 different languages.

No matter what you're shooting, or what settings you're using, this powerful medium format workhorse records to removable flash media, using the dual slot memory card holder. SD/SDHC/SDXC cards are all compatible. The included Pentax D-LI90 lithium-ion battery provides you with a rechargeable power source that can record approximately 800 images, or run playback for 440 minutes, before it needs to be recharged. An optional AC adapter is available as an alternate, continuous power source.
